Advanced Same Day Digital Dental Treatments Q & A

by John L. Redd II, DMD

What are advanced same-day digital dental treatments?

At the practice, Dr. Redd uses the CEREC® system to offer superior dental options. This technology allows the dentist to provide ceramic dental solutions which are extremely durable and offer very natural-looking results. In as little as a single visit to the dentist's office, the CEREC® solution can provide a newly-made crown which can repair worn, damaged, broken or discolored teeth.

How does the CEREC® system work?

The CEREC®, or Ceramic Reconstruction, the process can be used to create custom made, full contour zirconium crowns using computer guided technology. Dr. Redd uses the actual structure of the patient’s teeth and mouth to create and build a practically perfect replacement crown. This is done by first scanning the mouth and the affected area. This scan is displayed on a monitor where the dentist can design the new crown. Next, the crown is put through grinding and milling in the innovative CEREC® machine. This unit can create a smooth finished crown which matches the exact specifications of the person’s scan. Lastly, the crown is sintered and fired in the CEREC® SpeedFire device. This allows the crown to be finalized in a matter of minutes. The CEREC® process can be used for partial crowns, back and front crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers. Since this technology allows the crown to be made so quickly, the patient can leave the appointment with a new smile in just one visit.

Is the CEREC® solution safe?

CEREC® has been helping patients for 30 years and has been used in hundreds of dental practices for a wide variety of issues. It has been proven to be very successful and safe. Over 250 clinical tests and long-term studies conducted for up to 18 years have demonstrated the excellence of CEREC® restorations.
